🧠At NeuroBeast we also strive to help our athletes develop a solid mindfulness practice. Mindfulness allows them to focus on the present moment and eliminate counterproductive “mind chatter” .
🧠There are a lot of distractions for an athlete as they perform; the noise of the crowd, the competitors beside them, or even past mistakes. These distractions can have negative impacts on their performance and may be the reason an athlete misses a shot, drops a catch or blows an assignment.

Everybody knows there is a mental side to the game, but nobody trains for it, until now.
You hear many coaches say that sports performance is 90% mental and 10% physical. And we all inherently know this is true.
But why do so many athletes, trainers, and coaches focus 100% of their efforts on improving the physical aspects of performance and not the mental aspects of the game?

He have been having a blast with the @eyeonballinc Vector Ball this week! It’s a great addition to our other cognitive training tools. In the drill in the video, each athlete is assigned a color. If that color activates once thrown off the wall the player with that particular assigned color has to catch the ball and then toss it back off the wall again. This past weekend I was blessed to watch my client Brandon Lopez battle it out in his first MMA fight as a pro! We had a challenging 8 week camp filled with all kinds of adversity and setbacks but we persevered. Our main focus was getting him physically and mentally ready to fight at the pro level where the athletes are more experienced and skilled. Our 8 week regime included a strength & conditioning program that was focused around joint stability, energy system training and explosiveness. As he stepped into the octagon I heard people making comments about his physique which made me feel awesome as a his trainer. In Brandon’s preparation we also implemented a cognitive training/ mindfulness program to enhance his reaction time, vision, focus and decision making under stress. For it being his pro debut, Brandon had the poise of a seasoned vet and was never rattled! Im super proud of him and looking forward to getting him ready for his next fight!! Cognitive conditioning is a emerging field in the human performance industry. In a nutshell, cognitive conditioning is a tool used to help people perform a task under varying degrees of stress. Our goal is to minimize the time that our clients perceive, processes and correctly perform a task while experiencing different levels mental and physical stress. This drill utilizes the @fitlighttraining system and the @switchedontraining app. To execute this drill : -The Athletes are to use their peripheral vision to deactivate the Fitlights using their feet their peripheral vision.
-When a number flashes on the app, the athlete calls the number out loud
-When a color flashes on the app, the athlete calls out a word that starts with the first letter of the color. (ie if red shows up the athlete is to say “rabbit” or “raptor”.
At the end of the drill the athlete is repeat the the numbers shown in the exact same order as they appeared on the screen.

As we shift into the second phase of @brandonlopezmma training camp, the emphasis has shifted from creating a solid base to increasing strength capacity. To achieve this we are utilizing submaximal loads and keeping the rep range around 5 to 6 reps with a rate of perceived exertion of 8 or 9. We are also utilizing low level unilateral, bilateral and multildirectional plyometics. In this drill where are utilizing 3 fitlights and the Mindbody1 concentration sticks . Our main focus here is to train lateral movement, mental physicality and working memory. To execute this drill we placed 3 fitlights at approx 3 feet apart from one another. The athlete starts at the cone holding the one concentration stick in each hand. If the first light goes off, the athlete has to slide/shuffle to the light, deactivate the light using the corresponding color on the MB1 concentration stick and slide/shuffle back to the cone. If the second light goes off, the athlete will use a crossover step to get to the light, deactivate the light using the corresponding color on the MB1 concentration stick and crossover step back to the cone.
